Chris Gwilliam • Front Ens. Caption Head

Chris has been studying Percussion since the age of 6 and has studied at the University of Utah. He also helps teach the Roy High Marching band as the Front Ensemble instructor. Chris has been teaching at Gold Spike Percussion since 2019 and has served as Caption Head since 2023.

 

Adrian Rosales • Technician

Adrian J. Rosales is the Director of Percussion at Herriman High School. Before joining Herriman High School, Adrian was the Band Director at Shelley High School in Shelley, Idaho. While there, he led the Shelley High School Marching Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, and Percussion Ensemble. Adrian earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Brigham Young University-Idaho. At BYU-I, he performed in many ensembles, most notably The Symphonic Orchestra, Symphony Band, and RixStix Percussion Ensemble. Adrian has also performed with the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra and Idaho Falls Symphony. He was also a founding member of The Battalion Drum & Bugle Corps and North Star Independent. During his percussion career, Adrian has taught at several South East Idaho Area schools, The Battalion Drum & Bugle Corps, and was the Front Ensemble Caption head at North Star Independent. Adrian is excited to be a part of the Gold Spike Team!

Cassie Standing • Technician

Cidney McQuade • Electronics Specialist

Cidney was a performer with Gold Spike Percussion from 2020-2023. Cidney recently joined the front ensemble team as an electronics intern. Cidney started as a clarinet player in 7th grade. When they aren’t geeking out over music, they enjoy crocheting, reading, writing, and taking long naps with their cats. Cidney is currently attending Weber State University and is pursuing a degree in Creative Writing and Music Performance.

 

Jason Manchester • Technician

Jason is a musician and educator from Price, UT. Jason has taught for 5 years, including 3 as percussion lead at Carbon HS and 1 year as in intern for GSP. Under his direction, Jason's students have received multiple percussion caption awards and a 2nd place overall at the State competition. Jason considers himself incredibly fortunate to have been a guest clinician for other high schools across the state.

Jason was a member of the Gold Spike Front Ensemble from 2019-2023 under the direction of many incredible people who have helped shape the way he teaches. Jason loves working with students and helping grow their knowledge and love for this activity. "I love this activity so much and it’s truly shaped who I am as a person. I look forward to working with the incredible students that will come our way!"

Josh Adams • Technician

Josh Adams is a percussionist from American Fork, UT. He marched at Lone Peak High School for 4 years and was part of the U of U Honors Youth Percussion Ensemble (H.Y.P.E) his Junior and Senior year. Josh was apart of the UVU Percussion studio and later marched at Impact in 2019.

Josh was the Front Ensemble Caption Head for Lehi High School, as well as the Assistant Director for the Lehi High School Indoor Drumline from 2019-2023. Josh first worked with Gold Spike Percussion in 2023 and returns for the 2024 season as a Front Ensemble Technician.

 
 

Mitchell Barnard • Music Consultant

Mitchell Barnard is a musician and educator who currently resides in Ogden, Utah. Mr. Barnard is the Percussion Director at the Davis High School, Battery Caption Head at Weber State University, Battery Instructor for the Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps. Under his direction since the winter of 2010, Davis’ Indoor Drumline has won six straight Intermountain Percussion Association Championships. Mr. Barnard also serves on the Board of Directors for the Intermountain Percussion Association.

Over the years, Mr. Barnard has marched for many ensembles including the Utah Jazz Drumline, Junction City Hybrid Indoor Drumline, University of Utah Drumline, where he served as Section Leader, Weber State Indoor Percussion, the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps. During this time, he had the privilege of studying under such educators as David Reeves, Kevin Welborn, Matt Little, Chris Grant, Nick Molenda, Derek Fields, and many others.

Over the years, Mitch has instructed numerous ensembles around northern Utah and was a Battery Instructor for the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. He has also served as guest clinician for several area percussion ensembles and was the Battery Percussion Clinician for the 2012 Utah Music Educator’s Association Summer Marching Band Clinic.

Mr. Barnard is also an active arranger. He has arranged percussion for groups all over Utah including the University of Utah, Weber State University, and Utah Valley University Drumlines. Mr. Barnard is a professional arranger of indoor percussion shows and is the Percussion Designer for the Davis High School Marching Band and Indoor Percussion Ensemble as well as The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps.
