Peter Bates • Choreographer, Visual Coordinator

Peter Bates is a visual designer, choreographer, and clinician for the pageantry arts based in American Fork, UT. 2023 marks four years that Peter has taught and choreographed for GSP, and he is excited to begin his journey as the visual caption head. Peter works with a number of percussion ensembles in the winter, including Élan (Covina, CA), North Star Independent (Idaho Falls, ID), and Matrix (Akron, OH).

Peter is currently on staff as the visual caption head of the American Fork High School Marching Band, and instructs and designs for a number of other bands across the country. He marched trumpet and mellophone with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps for five years (2013-2017) and marched cymbals with Matrix in 2018. He is currently on visual staff with the Boston Crusaders.

 

Freddy Zwirb • Visual Instructor

Freddy is a visual instructor based out of Salt Lake City. Freddy's performance history includes two seasons of drum corps on Euphonium. He marched one season with The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps in 2018 and aged out with the Mandarins in 2019. Freddy works with Alta High School as the Visual Caption Head for the Marching Band and Indoor Percussion ensembles. He is also on the visual staff at Mclean High School (McLean, Virginia.) Additionally, Freddy worked with Horizon Percussion during their return to the floor during the 2023 season. Freddy is ecstatic to be joining the team at GSP and is excited to collaborate with such a great group of performers and educators!

Connor Pack • Visual Consultant

Connor Pack is a music and marching arts educator who resides and works in Ogden, UT. His primary job is the director of bands, orchestras, and choirs at Mound Fort Junior High School. Additionally, he is a member of the educational staffs at The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps, Gold Spike Percussion, and the Ogden High School Marching Band. Over the years he has worked with a variety of marching ensembles throughout the mountain west states.

Connor has been playing the trumpet since 2003 and has been active in the marching arts since 2007, including several years with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, the 2009 Bands of America Honor Marching Band, and one year in the Pride of the Rockies marching band at UNC Greeley.

Connor took a brief break from the marching arts in 2012 to complete a two-year missionary trip, where he was able to gain daily experience as a dedicated teacher. After his return, he switched focus from being a performer to a music educator. Connor graduated from Brigham Young University - Idaho with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, and while there he was a regular member of and principal trumpet player in the the symphony band, symphony orchestra, chamber brass ensembles, and the Sound Alliance jazz band. He was also hired as a teaching assistant to help teach the marching band methods course.
